Plagiarism, Text Recycling and Citation Integrity

Mandatory Antiplagiat screening

GMR uses the licensed Antiplagiat system for plagiarism and text-similarity screening. The initial check is completed during technical assessment before a manuscript is released to external reviewers. A revised manuscript may be checked again when changes are substantial or when the first report identified concerning overlap. The Editorial Office records the screening outcome as part of the confidential editorial workflow.

How similarity reports are interpreted

A similarity percentage is a screening signal, not a diagnosis of plagiarism and not an automatic acceptance or rejection rule. Editors review matched sources, attribution, quotation, reference-list matches, standard methodological wording, translated overlap, text recycling and the location and extent of each match. Legitimate similarity is distinguished from unattributed appropriation.

• Substantial or unexplained overlap may lead to a request for explanation, correction and re-screening before peer review.
• Serious unattributed copying, concealed duplicate publication or translated duplicate publication may lead to rejection or an integrity investigation.
• A low similarity score does not exclude plagiarism when ideas, structure, data, figures or translated text have been appropriated without proper attribution.

Prohibited conduct

• Copying text, ideas, data, tables or figures without appropriate attribution or permission.
• Submitting substantially overlapping, duplicate, redundant or translated duplicate work without transparent disclosure.
• Recycling text from the authors’ own publications in a misleading or excessive manner without appropriate citation or justification.
• Citing nonexistent, retracted or unverifiable sources without appropriate identification.
• Using AI-generated references without verification.
• Coercive or irrelevant citation requests intended to inflate citations.

Confidentiality and records

Similarity reports are confidential editorial records. Manuscript content may be processed through Antiplagiat under the publisher’s institutional or licensed service for the purpose of similarity screening. Reports or relevant matched-source information may be shared with authors when clarification or correction is required, subject to licence and source-access restrictions.

Actions before and after publication

Depending on severity and publication stage, the journal may request clarification or revision, repeat screening, reject the manuscript, suspend processing, notify another journal or institution, or after publication issue a correction, Expression of Concern or Retraction in accordance with the journal’s research-integrity procedures.
